20 reasons not to give up on the path to your goal even in the most difficult moments

There are times in our lives when it seems like the world has turned its back on us: work isn’t going well, opportunities slip through our fingers, one trouble is replaced by another, and the desire to give up everything, move away and never return is brewing.

I have compiled a list of 20 reasons that I hope will give you the motivation and inspiration to keep moving forward despite all the challenges. After all, it often happens that people stop fighting and give up, being just one step away from their cherished goal.

Remember the story of the man whose action inspired the idea of the marathon?

In ancient times, when the Persians landed on the shores of Greece, an envoy was sent to Sparta to ask for help in fighting the Persians. All hope was placed on this envoy, because there were simply no other ways of communication and help.

Legend has it that this man covered a distance of 240 kilometers on his own feet in just two days. And a little later he ran another 40 kilometers to announce the victory of the Greeks over the Persians. True, after that he died on the spot.

When your challenges seem too difficult and you feel like giving up, remember this story and think about the superhuman efforts that first marathon runner had to make to cover such a distance in such a short time. Don't try to repeat what he did, but use this story for inspiration.

Existing techniques, exercises, techniques

To gain confidence as a strong motivational stimulus, you can use established practices.

Today, such techniques are used under the guidance of experienced psychologists, who select techniques based on personality characteristics and the properties of the final goal.

How to eat a whole elephant

Mastering a large amount of information or the desire to embrace the immensity becomes an impossible task even for professionals in their field. But dividing a task into several stages, stages or elements allows you to focus on the final result through sequential execution of actions or an algorithm that has been proven over the years.

In an attempt to jump over one's head, a person often slows down, which is why indecision and uncertainty appear in one's current activities. But when there is an understanding that the hero will have to participate in a chain of events - components of a single thing, then the picture will form by itself. Behind you will be completed stages that bring you closer to the completion of the ideological plan.

Pull yourself out of the bottom like Chris Gardner

Have you seen the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness”? It is based on true events in the life of Chris Gardner. This is a man who was able to pull himself out from the very bottom of a miserable life, when there was no work, no housing, no food. And yet, Chris found the strength not to give up where many other people would have given up, and to achieve his goal. He became a millionaire.

If thoughts about quitting creep into your head, I recommend watching the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness” starring Will Smith.

How to go towards your goal correctly

Many people complain that they cannot reach new heights in their lives. They come up with excuses and a million reasons why they don’t do anything to improve their lives. It is very important to be able to set a goal correctly and motivate yourself to succeed. Brian Tracy in his book “The Psychology of Achievement” described 12 main stages through which each goal goes through.

1. Desire.

It is very important to really want to achieve a certain goal. You must sincerely want it. You need to set only those goals, the achievement of which is very important to you.

2. Faith

Believing in your future and your goal is an integral part of the path to achieving it. You will be able to cope with all the obstacles that stand in your way only if you believe in your goal and that you can achieve it. Only with this attitude will you be able to fulfill all your desires in the best possible way and in a short time. Napoleon Hill wrote: “The human mind can achieve anything it sets its mind to or believes.”

3. Write down your goal

A goal that is not written down is not yet real. It is advisable to capture your goal on paper and describe in detail what you are willing to do to achieve it. While writing down, the goal will firmly settle in the subconscious, and you will constantly think about this desire. In addition, if you can constantly re-read information about the task at hand and how to achieve it, you can motivate yourself even more to succeed. The author of the book tested this rule on himself. Even at a time when he and his wife lived in a rented house, and did not have enough money even to purchase a modest home, he tested this rule. They dreamed of their own home and wrote 42 characteristics that their future abode should have. And three years later, when they bought their first house and found an old list, they were surprised to find that the house had 41 of the 42 desired characteristics.

4. Find the benefit that achieving your goal will bring.

You cannot set goals that have absolutely no benefit. Such aspirations are groundless. They are difficult to achieve and you won't have enough motivation to achieve them. The German philosopher Nietzsche wrote: “A man can bear any what if he has a big enough why.”

5. Analysis of the current situation

When setting a new goal, analyze what you have been able to achieve so far. Determine what stage you are at now, what you have already been able to achieve, and what remains to be done. You can associate each achievement on the way to your goal with a significant event in your life, this will help motivate yourself even more for success.

6. Setting a deadline

Set a deadline within which it will be possible to implement your plans. Setting unrealistic deadlines is useless, as you will only be upset for the reason that you were unable to invest in them. But it is necessary to determine deadlines, because without them you can constantly postpone achieving your goal and never achieve anything. The main thing is to set reasonable deadlines for yourself, as a friend of the author of the book says: “There are no unrealistic goals, only unrealistic deadlines.”

7. Identify obstacles

Achieving any goal cannot be done without obstacles. So before you begin, you need to think about, or even better, write down the difficulties that you may encounter. You will understand in advance what obstacles await you. And you can prepare yourself for actions that will help you overcome all difficulties on the path to success.

8. Determine the knowledge that will be needed

It is also better to consolidate the list of necessary knowledge on paper. This way you will understand exactly what skills and theory you need. And if you lack some knowledge, you can read the necessary literature and get advice from experienced people. Here Brian Tracy recommends using the 80/20 rule - 80 percent of the information you need is in the 20 percent you have.

9. Identify those whose help you will need

Think seriously and make a list of people and organizations that can help you fulfill your cherished desire. Many people underestimate this point because they believe that they can cope on their own. But you should pay special attention to it, since in any case you will need helpers and allies on the way to achieving most of your serious goals. It’s best to rank the names on this list in order of priority, so you can always see who is best to keep in touch with on a regular basis.

10. Make a plan

Making a plan is often the key to success. Break one big goal into small ones and set deadlines for completing them. A well-drafted plan is already half the success. Several years ago, the director of the company for which the author then worked suggested that he explore the market for the sale of Japanese cars and engage in the import and distribution of cars over a large geographical area. Brian immediately agreed to take on the job, but had no idea where to start. As a result, he re-read a huge amount of literature and in one of the sources he came across a certain plan consisting of 45 points. Then he decided to organize his work precisely according to it. And even to his surprise, after just three months he was already able to start importing and selling cars. As a result, the company received millions of dollars in profit. Then Brian Tracy became convinced of the effectiveness of a well-designed plan.

11. Visualization of the achieved goal

Visualize as if you have already fulfilled your wish. You will clearly see in your imagination what you will get when you achieve your goal. This will help you continuously achieve your goals and set you up for success even more.

12. Determination

For many, this step is the biggest obstacle. You don't need to be afraid of the difficulties you will face. Convince yourself that everything will work out and you will be able to cope with all the “walls” in your way. As Giacomo Casanova said: “It’s all about courage, because strength without confidence serves no purpose.”

You never know how close you are to success.

Many people gave up, not even suspecting that they were just one step away from success. No one knows for sure when success will come. Perhaps this will happen tomorrow, or maybe in a year or two. But if you stop, stop trying and give up, you will not achieve it in 10 years, or even by the end of your life.

The next time you want to give up everything, think, because it may very well be that success is waiting for you just around the next corner.

All that is required of you is not to give up!

The reason for your "non-achievement"

If you have been wanting to get something for a long time, but just can’t, if you have tried many methods, but none of them have helped you yet. If it’s hard for you to discipline and control yourself, to be aware of your behavior, to keep focus on the goal, then you just need to understand your personal reason that led to this. Until you realize the reason, you will not be able to do anything about it, which means you will fail again and again. The reasons can be very different - your limiting beliefs that contradict your goals, fears, unconscious benefits that you get from not achieving your goals.

In order to determine what reasons for “non-achievement” you have specifically, you can contact a specialist. I am a psychologist and provide individual consultations via Skype. Together with you during a consultation, we can understand what exactly is preventing you from achieving your cherished goal, and after identifying the reason, we will determine how you can work with it and, most likely, you will quickly begin to approach your goal like never before.

In fact, realizing and bringing to the surface the reasons for “non-achievement” is the main point, after completing which you will immediately and inevitably begin to move towards the goal.

For example, one of my clients, who came to me for a consultation with the question “how to achieve her goals,” wanted to start her own family: find a suitable man, build a relationship with him, have a child, live “happily ever after.” Having met and talked in a consultation via Skype, we discovered that at the subconscious level she always thought that she was unworthy of happiness, did not know how to love and generally hated men. We identified her subconscious beliefs: “relationships are painful, they are unfreedom, like shackles in a dungeon, a prison. Relationships are sex-related. Relationships deprive me of development, since all the time is spent on building them, ironing, cleaning, cooking, sex, raising children. And being a housewife is an insult, a position of a dependent woman who is not able to exist on her own.”

Logically, she thought she wanted to have a family. While her subconscious (96% of the brain) did its best to protect her from this. Together, having identified negative beliefs, we worked through them and changed them. Not immediately, but the goal was achieved. If you also want to identify the reasons that slow you down in moving towards your goal, I can help you in a psychological consultation via Skype.

On one side of the scale lie fear and misunderstanding - on the other there is always freedom!

Tools of Achievement

The wording and message of the goal have been decided. Now we need to understand how to achieve it. There are several effective tools for this.

Psychological attitude

Many people stop at the very beginning, because the notorious “I won’t succeed” is very strong and difficult to eradicate. But this must be done, otherwise such thoughts will constantly drag you down. “I will achieve everything”, “I can do this” - repeat these phrases daily as a mantra and remember that not all people succeed in everything the first time. Everyone has emotional downturns, think in advance how you will lift your spirits during such periods. You can read inspiring biographies, you can imagine that you have already achieved your goal - dreams sometimes help in your work. Why not?

Time planning

Of course, the goal will not be achieved just like that. You need to plan your steps to achieve it. It’s even worth breaking the period into stages. For example, you want to paint a portrait or still life, but you’re not very good at drawing. Think about what you need to do to achieve your goal: hone your drawing skills (two months), think through an image (three weeks), sketch a sketch (one week). Plan your achievement process to make it easier to keep yourself on track.

Actions every day

The most effective example is this: Olympic champions do not become simply because a person has talent. Those who have been studying long and hard for years get on the pedestal. Same with personal goals. If you take the necessary actions every day, the likelihood of achieving your goal increases faster.
